It always makes me happy to see developers not being limited by the size of their team, so all the more reason to support such talents in the industry! Not just for this room, but rather for the near 700 other in this game. I remember using the young mayor's bedroom as reference for an art, and even for such a simple room that contains only a single puzzle, the team hasn't neglected decorating it with much attention to details. I often hear fans talking about how good the soundtracks are, or how smooth the animations of our heroine and the enemies are, but what's often overlooked is how pretty the world looks. Iconoclasts and Undertale are both from one-man teams, and even large games like Hollow Knight took only a handful of talented people to make. I often adore how indie developers are capable of making those big games despite being short on staff. Take a quick look to have an idea of how big the game is! Oh, and then I sunk in another 150+ hours right after my first playthrough just to get the challenge badges and write my (massive) compendium.
PHOA has huge emphases on exploration and collectibles as well (coupled with some combat), and let's just say I was more than surprised when I discovered yet another hidden area when I was 40+ hours into the game, which rarely happens outside open-world games by big studios. For instance, I have to put down A Link Between Worlds after putting 20 hours into the game finding all the secrets and collectibles. For now, let's just take my word for it about how "The vastness of the game's fantasy world will DEFINITELY exceed your expectation, and you will sink in dozens of hours before you can find anything in this game boring or repetitive."Īnother metric I use for measuring if "game is good" is with how much time I have spent on it, and I see myself as quite a picky gamer.
PHOENOTOPIA AWAKENING STEAM FULL
I mean, for sure all games are 10/10 when you are asking from the fans, but it's not easy to give the full picture to people who've yet to play it. This was what I originally focused on before re-writing this essay. Where Phoenotopia is now (and my adulthood) How Phoenotopia begins (and my childhood) But instead of doing a "salesman pitch" (which I don't really have experience with), I am simply going to talk about why I like this game, and why it will forever hold a special place in my heart. Still, it doesn't stop this game from being amazing.Īmong of sea of wonderful games (indies or not), PHOA stands out to me with its HUGE world that is jam-packed with quality content. Let me begin by saying Phoenotopia: Awakening (PHOA) is my favourite game of all time, which is a bit uncommon since indies don't usually get the headlines from hands of/ big-budget titles. Check out the thread for more information, and of course try out the demo and the game if you are interested!
